Laser Hair Removal: For men & women

Any area of the body can be treated at  the Medical Aesthetics Center at Women's Healthcare Associates.  Having been one of the first to offer permanent hair reduction using the Diode Laser, our combined experience is our patients' best benefit.  The LightSheer™ is an effective medical grade equipment used only by physicians, nurse practitioners and a few others allowed by law. Salons and day spas cannot use the laser without physician supervision.  Call 561-620-6262 or come in for a complimentary evaluation.

Say goodbye to ingrown hairs, shaving, painful waxing, and hair removal creams.  Try one area, and you will be so thrilled with the results, you'll want to add more!

Who performs the laser treatments?

At Women’s Healthcare Associates, your laser treatments will be performed by Dr. Nia Kessler.  Dr. Kessler has extensive experience with laser hair removal and is an educator in the field as well.

How does it work?

The LightSheer™ laser emits light at a specific wave-length that selectively destroys the hair follicle. A cooling tip on the laser protects the skin from injury. No creams or any other substances need to be applied to the skin before treatment, as with some other hair removal methods.

Treatments are given four to six weeks apart, in order to destroy hairs that were in the resting stage during previous treatments. Patients generally require between 3 and 6 treatments, after which 85% - 95% of the hair will not re-grow. Any re-growth that occurs is typically finer and lighter.

While all skin types can be treated effectively, the LightSheer™ works best on dark hair on light skinned patients. Blond or gray hair does not respond well to these laser treatments. Please call 561-620-6262 if you need more information on how the laser works.

How long does the procedure take?

The length of the procedure depends on the size of the area to be treated. The upper lip takes only a few minutes, while the underarms take 15 to 20 minutes and the bikini line takes 30 minutes or more. Legs and thighs obviously take significantly more time, therefore several sessions will be needed for upper and lower leg treatment. Please call 561-620-6262 if you need more information on how long the procedures take.

Does it hurt?

Some areas of the body tend to be more sensitive than others, and you may experience some brief discomfort. While anesthesia is not required, we sometimes recommend applying a topical anesthetic (EMLA Cream or similar) about one hour before the procedure to minimize any discomfort. We can prescribe this cream in advance of your appointment, or apply it in our offices free of charge 1 hour before your treatment.  Please call 561-620-6262 if you need more information on the laser hair removal procedure.

Which patients should not undergo laser hair removal?

Patients with recently tanned skin and patients using medications which require limited exposure to sunlight (i.e. Tetracycline, Retin A) must follow specific pretreatment instructions. Please call us to find out more.

Thanks to our latest upgrade for the LightSheer™ laser, we can now treat all skin colors, even tanned skin; however, best results are accomplished on skin that has been protected from the sun for at least 4 weeks before treatment. Please call 561-620-6262 if you’re not sure if you’re a candidate for laser hair removal.

Is it safe?

Yes. The cooling tip on the laser is patented and protects the skin ffrom injury. LightSheer™Laser is safe to use on any area of the body. Goggles are worn during treatment to protect the eyes.

Scarring of the skin was not observed in large clinical studies however scarring may occur rarely after any skin treatment. Occasionally, patients experience skin pigmentation changes in the treated area. These changes are temporary. Please call 561-620-6262 if you need more information on laser hair removal procedures' safety.

How much does it cost?

We offer highly competitive pricing for all laser hair removal procedures.  Unlike other centers, at Women's Healthcare Associates you won't pay for anesthetic cream. Laser hair removal prices vary according to the area treated. Call our office for an appointment for a complimentary evaluation on any of our services.
